On June 13, the Summer Family Fest took place at the premises of the Mamų Unija Foundation, bringing together children affected by cancer and their families for a day dedicated to joy, connection, and emotional support. The event welcomed families under the foundation’s care, members of its community, partners, and friends, creating a space where compassion and togetherness became the defining themes of the day.
The programme was thoughtfully designed to offer meaningful experiences for participants of all ages. Following the official opening, guests enjoyed a performance by the band LiuKabu and the educational programme "Išeik į lauką" ("Go Outside"), encouraging children to spend more time in nature through engaging outdoor activities.
Throughout the day, children took part in creative workshops where they crafted wooden objects by hand, while an inflatable play area provided a lively space for games, movement, and laughter.
A particularly meaningful part of the programme was the canine-assisted therapy sessions organised by specialists from the Lithuanian Canistherapy Association. Participants were divided into groups for younger children, older children, and adults, allowing each session to be adapted to the specific needs of its participants. Such initiatives are increasingly recognised as an important form of emotional support for families navigating the challenges of serious illness.
Following a barbecue lunch, families enjoyed interactive activities, a prize wheel, and ice cream provided by Dadu, served by the beloved character Karlsson, whose cheerful presence added warmth and playfulness to the celebration.
The event concluded with a concert by the band Omerta. One of the evening’s most memorable moments came with the performance of "Degtukai" ("Matches"), a song that uses the image of a match as a metaphor for inner strength, hope, and the determination to move forward despite life's hardships. As the song played, families joined hands, danced together, and applauded in unison, creating a powerful atmosphere of solidarity, encouragement, and shared joy.
After the formal programme, families spent time together by the pool, enjoying a rare opportunity to relax, connect, and simply be together away from hospitals, treatments, and everyday concerns. Moments like these help restore a sense of normal childhood while offering families valuable time to recharge emotionally.
